The Impact of Influencer Marketing on Purchase Decisions.

Influencer marketing continues to drive purchases, but its ability to convert attention into action is weakening.

In 2024, 28% of consumers purchased a product after seeing it featured in an influencer’s TikTok post. This was the highest result, although it stood at 31% in 2020.

The sharpest decline occurred on Instagram, falling from 37% to 24%. Facebook also dropped from 33% to 24%, while YouTube declined from 30% to 19%. Over four years, the influence of creators on purchase decisions decreased across every platform examined.

This does not necessarily mean the channel has become ineffective. Consumers may be cautious, better at recognising sponsored content, and more likely to verify claims elsewhere. Competition for attention has intensified, while repetitive recommendations have weakened the sense of authenticity.

For brands, reach and creator popularity are no longer enough. Success requires audience fit, natural context, credibility, and a demonstration of product value.

The key question may no longer be “How many people saw the integration?” but “How many trusted the brand afterwards?”
