Top 10 Most Influential Product Attributes When Purchasing Food and Beverages.
Consumers may support responsible production, but at the shelf, price still comes first.
Low price is the most important food and beverage attribute for 46% of respondents. This is significantly higher than taste, which ranks second at 35%.
Nutritional value follows at 32%, with natural ingredients at 29%. Consumers are therefore not simply looking for the cheapest product: they expect a reasonable balance of price, taste, and health benefits.
Free-range and locally produced products matter to 24% of respondents, while 22% prioritise organic products. A well-known brand received 21%, while environmental friendliness and sustainable production each scored 19%.
For manufacturers, the message is clear. Values matter, but they rarely become decisive without an affordable price and a tangible consumer benefit. Communication focused solely on sustainability may lose to a simpler proposition: tasty, healthy, and reasonably priced.
A well-known brand also ranks below natural ingredients and local origin. This creates opportunities for smaller producers that can convincingly communicate product quality and justify the price. Premium promises need proof, not just attractive packaging copy.
